Underwood, Leon

Leon Underwood (1890-1975), was a famous British sculptor, painter, engraver, and illustrator. He attended the Slade School of Art and founded a magazine called The Island in 1931. His life's work was a variety of mediums and subjects but he was known to dislike abstract art. Underwood was also known to have been influenced by African, Mexican, and Cycladic styles. He later founded Brook Green School in London where he taught and worked at his private studio until his death.
